A planned building-wide environmental systems upgrade involved replacing fourteen 150-ton rooftop units, each weighing over 6,000 lbs, spread across an acre-sized roof.

Problem: Many of the units were positioned deep on the roof, beyond the reach of the largest available mobile hydraulic crane. Using a properly sized tower crane or twin-rotor helicopter would have significantly exceeded the owner's budget.

Solution: P&G Crane designed and built a movable load distribution runway, enabling us to use our Large Rolling Rooftop Crane to lift the units from their curbs and roll them across the roof to where our 200-ton mobile hydraulic crane could remove them. We then reversed the system to install curb adapters and position the replacement units. This engineered solution not only saved our customer over a quarter of a million dollars in hoisting costs, it also transformed an unattainable goal into reality for the owner.
